Daily Thoughts, Random Thoughts, Venting Area
Hi everyone, kind of feeling down for no specific reason. I am truly blessed in so many ways.

I guess when my husband is down, I get depressed as well.

I haven't even shopped for Thanksgiving yet. I usually get a turkey, but I know that I have a turkey breast already in the frig. It's just my husband and I, and he doesn't like turkey or any poultry dark meat. He did once try my turkey when I did a breast in the slow cooker, and he admitted it "was not too bad".

I just don't know what to do this year that won't be too much or not appreciated. I even suggested we go out to dinner, but he didn't want to go.

Everything lately feels like a competition, and he acts like a sore loser. The point of contention is that I am a newly diagnosed diabetic type 2, and I am working hard to reduce my blood sugar. He says he is trying, but his is still mostly in the 200s which is too high. Mine is still too high, but it is coming down into the mid to low 100s, depending on when I test and what I ate, etc.

Gosh Shayna I am so sorry that you're having a bad day & not feeling too good. You are not alone though. I too am having a bad day. Try not to stress yourself about Thanksgiving. If I were you I would just cook the turkey breast that you already have.
I'm sending you positive healing vibes & for your husband too.

Thank you Roses, what a nice surprise! I have been so busy this morning and just checked the forum, and I had your lovely post waiting for me!! Smile

My husband (and me too) is also in chronic pain and probably needs a hip replacement. He had one hip done in 2012, but that was before I started having the back problems I have now. He is afraid to get the other one done, because he thinks I am not strong enough.

I keep telling him that a) I am strong enough for what is needed to be done by me and b) I will get extra help for the rest. To be honest, I don't know if I am strong enough or can get the help I need, but I have faith that God will put people in my life and keep things in motion. If I am not strong enough now, He will find for me the strength I need to endure.

Kittycat, the movies is a great suggestion, and we are thinking about going. I even suggested we could smuggle in our low fat popcorn so we can still enjoy treats without blowing everything -- although I said for the holiday meal, I am not going to be strict with myself with carbs, etc.

I am not strict with him, I never chide him about what he eats, unless he skips meals then I do get on him about that because it isn't safe. But I don't criticize him if he wants a cookie or a croissant, etc. I just try to be good myself, most of the time, and hope that rubs off on him.

He is so busy today, running errands that did not get done on time last week, for his part time work. He tends to procrastinate and then it piles up, and it stresses him out and me both, though I try not to let him know that I get worried, too. He won't be back until late tonight, and I guess if needed, we can go out and find a turkey tonight (or not). Really, that and maybe a dessert is all we need, as I have everything else in the house already (I keep a large pantry).

Hi Shayna,

sorry to hear that it's not a good time for you....sometimes the holidays can be very stressful.....always remember that the only thing you can control is yourself and you have to realize that we are all on our own journey and only we can figure things out. I myself have had family issues arise when my father passed away 4 years ago....all because he made me the executor....an older sibling couldn't accept that and is convinced that I talked him into doing it....yeah right, all I have lived for is to want a thankless job....not!! that said, she and her family haven't spoken to me since so we now take turns doing the holidays at my mom's. in the past few years I have been going to my son's in-laws for thanksgiving...it's a very long drive and by the time we get home, I am exhausted.... I realized that the best part of the day was when he finally said it's time to go home....lol that said, this year I decided to just spend it home by myself....I will always have my wonderful memories of past thanksgivings and that is what I choose to focus on and remember....hang in there and try to think as positive as possible and if someone's attitude is not in sync with yours, then that's their issue, not yours. if you feel like turkey and all the trimmings, do it up and enjoy it.

sorry for the long post....be well my friend....and have a happy thanksgiving

Hi Linville. I agree with you. Very thoughtful of you.

Thanksgiving for me this year will be kinda sad since it will be the first time my 2 sons won't be here. They are 29 & 30 years old & they are making their own plans. So there will only be 5 of us. I don't like it but it is what it is.

I am having a real hard time lately. I have bad empty nest syndrome since my son is no longer living with me. He left on Saturday for Colorado which is where he will now live. I was so upset because he drove out there by himself with his dog & from New York it took him 3 days. But he made it & that takes a load off my mind that he did. I have stopped tearing up but my heart still wishes he would have stayed here with me which I am ashamed of since I''m being selfish. But I hope to go out & see him in a few months. Anyway this is my random thought for today. Thanks for listening friends.

@Linville great post. @Roses you are a great parent! A great parent encourages their children to spread their wings and fly. I understand how you feel just because I don't know how I will ever live without my children, but my parents did everything to keep me at home, and eventually my father came down with Alzheimer's so I had no choice but to stay as close as possible. I understand they did it out of love, and now that my father has passed I would do anything for another pointless conversation with him. Now both my wife and I are the couple who stays close by to both sets of elderly parents, so that they can enjoy their grandkids and we can keep an eye on them. But both of us would have been better off if we were encouraged to go out into the world and live our lives when we were younger. You are an awesome parent for letting go, never forget it.
