I also saw that a storm had blew it down though, IO had always wanted to see it and had it on my bucket list , sadly it is down now.I think it happened on 1/9/2017

Incredibly sad to hear this iconic sequoia in Calaveras Big Trees State Park feel this weekend due to a winter storm.
I last visited the park in Sept of 2014 (picture included).
The giant sequoias are gorgeous. It’s a somber day for one California’s best state parks.

The tree had a good life...lots of love and admiration.....ironically it would have stood longer if not for the man made hole....why can't we just leave these beauties alone?

I know damn well that tree didn't want that hole.

BTW, one of our largest Coastal Redwoods (the Advocates tree in Nicene Marks State Park just 4 miles from me) met the same fate during the same storm......it was 45 ft in diameter and 260 feet high....I have been trying to get to it to pay my respects...but the swollen creeks are blocking my efforts.....I found a way in but it is too many miles for me. I can wait for spring or I can ford the stream. At my age....waiting isn't the best choice....but then again neither is fording streams Big Grin

Just leave the wonderful trees alone.
Popster I know what you mean about getting to the tree and I hope you can make it soon.
Those are indeed beauties!!!

I pulled the story off the news ...I had not been there yet.
I want to go but have only been in the airports in the state....sadly
I would like to drive the state.

I am glad you enjoyed the pictures, Orange, I am a very amateurish enthusiast photographer with some equipment always looking for a shot.

I do have some really nice ones....from my travels and hunting for them anywhere I am. Smile
