Yes Linville we are "twins" in this respect
So, Pops didn't wait and he did ford the stream.
Here's a few Pics of the Advocates tree that is about 1000 years old and was downed by our last big storm.
to give a little perspective.....here are two pics....one with the roots exposed (look for my backpack hanging from the roots on the right side)
and the other has me standing on the trunk with my gloves and hat in the foreground.
and lastly a picture of some of beautiful heartwood of this wonderful old growth.

Oh thank you Pop's for posting thoses.
I remember reading the story and I was saddened that it had been blown over in the storms.
WOW, that is way bigger with your perspective shots!
Such a beautiful specimen.
There is about a 10 square mile area of old growth Red Spruce trees that I have visited before and I am always left in awe of them. A few years ago one was blown over similar to this one.
They had made a sort of boardwalk under it at the base .
I mentioned the other day to a co worker that I did not like the fact that it seems they are cutting them faster than they can grow.
A hardwood tree does not grow that fast and in one's lifetime they do not mature so if you are lucky enough to have mature trees I would try and protect them.
I guess the water table is being replenished I hope back to normal with all the rain and snow out west.
Let's see what lake is it that is down so much in levels, the one they have giant suction pipes that pump to the cities.....I hope it's levels are up.
Thank you again for sharing those wonderful pictures, Popster !

I have been snorkeling didnt see a colorful turtle, (but I did see one,) like this but the coral was just as nice and I saw fish that had spectacular color.....wow
I could hardly believe it.
But dont try to steady yourself on the coral or it could cut you easy.
Figure the color will help the winter Blahs, hope so for us all.
