Moneygram
#22
I just recently had issues with both WU and MG.
MG security team called me just after I sent money online. Asked questions about me, my birth date, etc.. then asked questions about the receiver, how I know them, have we ever met in person, what the money was for... I said that it was for a friend that needed help and we had met online. They canceled the transaction right then. I believe if I said I had met them in person they would have let the transaction proceed. So, I received an email that asked me to go in person to a MG brick and morter. I paid in cash and received a receipt with no problem. Yes, I had to provide an ID. I'm glad I did too because later that day i received an email form the vendor saying there was an issue. MG cancelled the second transaction too. I was able to go back to the store, provide my ID and get all of my money back. If i had used a false name i would have been out of luck. I called MG to ask why both transactions had been denied and they said vaguely that red flags are sometimes set off and they were not giving an exact reason. That was my experience recently with MG.I have made multiple, smaller transactions to a different country and vendor with no issues.
My recent experience with WU (same vendor and country as above)... in the middle of the online transaction a screen popped up with the phone number of my credit card company. It asked me to call the number of my credit card company and I had to verbally provide authorization to proceed. The credit card company agent asked my secret password and saw the transaction process on her end. At that time I was texted a passcode to finalize the transaction with WU and receive a reference # from WU. I am still waiting to hear back from the vendor to see if they were able to complete the transaction on their end.
Whew!
I hope that my description of my recent experience can be found helpful to somebody.
Have a great day!
