I don't think this would be allowed to happen in the UK,your boss would be up in front of an employment tribunal and you would either be allowed to return to your job or be compensated for the treatment you have had to endure losing your job.
If you have no right to take this low life to court then the employment laws over there or plain wrong,no doubt we will be implementing the same laws here soon,we usually follow what our US masters do.
From what you have wrote seems like you are good in your field of work so hopefully will find work soon,i hope you do after all this bad treatment,very best of luck Batgirl.
