excellent thread.
i never tasted alcohol because my mother had a severe problem with it.
and, because of tremors, i began valium. i can stop on a dime. nothing happens to me. i never upped my dosage in all these years.
i would be the epitome of addictive personality but i am one stubborn woman. for me, it is just "no."
plus, being in school, and needed all A grades, kinda helps keep one off meds.
i remember when a group of us were in a course to study for the Bar Exam. so many went and got diet pills to stay awake, and sleep pills to rest after studying. but, u must memorize 1000 pages of NYState law cold. and u have but seconds to answer a question. u do this for three days.
as i predicted, the ones whom used drugs to stay awake and then sleep, lost it at the Convention Center. freaking. crying. they could not remember.
For me, and it sounds pretentious or just stupid, but, although i was the youngest child, I am the one whom felt the need to care for my parents. and my older sisters. and, one cannot party down when one has work and school in the morning.
i would say, i lucked out. but, i made choices. every minute of every day. i had to, in order to survive. to help my family survive.
I guess i am like the rats whom chose to be together. maybe tasted it once or twice. and then got on with their little lives.
i am very proud of all of u whom made the leap.
and, i detest the tobacco companies put everything possible to addict people into cigarettes. i had some chocolate ones when younger and that is all. my mother gave up smoking after my birth, but still died of lung cancer.
and, now, all these horrifying commercials to take this drug to stop amputations. all the other horrors that cigarettes can cause.
the same tobacco and drug lobbyists are now trying to get people off with usage of meds. will they never learn?
and our children are handed out drugs such as adderral for behavior control a good deal of the time. i have heard that many of them turn to drugs again in later years because that is the way they learned to solve a problem.
again, awesome thread. great replies.
