I have now finally been able to see an actual psychiatrist. I had to pay the full price out-of-pocket, but if I can get some help with my insomnia, it will be well worth it.
As for receiving help with my insomnia, I am not sure if I will get any. The psychiatrist agreed with me that my insomnia was very severe and sleeping pills were warranted. However, he told me that my severe liver problems might make @mbien unsafe for me. I actually had no idea that @mbien is a problem for people with liver failure -- I took @mbien for years before my liver problems were diagnosed, and never had any side effects from it. However, the psychiatrist said that prescribing @mbien would be a liability issue for him unless my liver specialist OKed it. I am pleased that the psychiatrist was honest and said his concern was he might be sued. It bothers me intensely when a physician says they are doing something for the patient's own good, and clearly they are just trying to avoid being sued.
So, I have contacted my liver specialist and asked him whether @mbien is safe for me. I am on pins-and-needles waiting to hear back. If he says @mbien is not safe, I don't know where I will go from here.
