Risperdone - Pineapplepen - 02-28-2017

Anyone take it? My dr wants me to try it for racing thoughts prior to sleep. Side effects? Idk. It's says on webmd is for bipolar and schizophrenia I'm not either of those, just anxiety. Thoughts?

That's what I thought. It .25 mg at bedtime. But no just anxiety nothing like psychosis. He says it will slow my anxiety and help me sleep idk? Freaked me out reading about it.

My buddy was on it for anger along with Zoloft for depression? Hope this helps inform.

Pineapplepen, i feel your worries about risperidone. but it's been a part of my "cocktail" of meds for BiPolar for about 4 years now and-after my body adjusted to taking 3mg at bedtime and being able to wake up without being a zombie-it has worked very well for me. my pdoc prescribed it for my morning anxieties which usually hit me about shower time each morning. none of the dreaded gynecomastia, no weight gain and no tremors. it, along with 3 other anti-psychotics and lorazepam have stabilized me quite well.

Way overkill for insomnia. I would try rameron any day before this.

I agree that risperidone seems like overkill. Some antipsychotics can be used for insomnia, since low dosages can be sedating without causing the "antipsychotic" effects. Seroquel seems to be the most common antipsychotic used for sleep. At a low dosage, it mostly functions as a H1-antagonist (like very strong Benadryl).

But if racing thoughts are the main issue, it might be worth trying supplements and herbs before going to pharmaceuticals. Taking some calcium and magnesium at night could help. Inositol helps for me.

I would abuse midazolam rather than touch risperdal. That's how against that drug I am
