I feel so old! LOL Big Grin 

The picture of the kids with their hands on their hearts as they look at the flag is really alien to me... we have nothing like that in the UK. Classrooms don't have flags. The only time people get flags out in the UK is for sports, especially soccer. Also the death of the Queen. I find these little differences fascinating.

We all (over here) used to do that every morning to start class AND
we had a morning prayer...

Madalyn Murray O'Hair (atheist in the 60's) pushed to have prayer removed..
She said for her son ( which later he became a preacher)

And I think she was killed by her own "flock" ... 

The prayer was stopped  June 25, 1962 ...
Not sure when they stopped the pledge ...

Lol, I just got a complaint this week because I still put 2 spaces after a sentence like we learned in typing class.  Apparently it is a pet peeve of the youngsters who learned to type on computers.  

In public school we always did the pledge of allegiance every morning.  Then after transferring to parochial school it was the pledge of allegiance and a prayer every morning.
