Thanks for sharing Charon. I get some of my best up-to-date resources from you and this board.

I’m double vaxxed and my employer is requiring all of us to disclose our vaccine information and also making it a mandate going forward. We are going to see this more and more

Hopefully it doesn`t mutate again from the new delta strain to something else.
If that happens they will probably make us take a 4th booster shot.

We had it pretty well under control in my area up until a month or 2 back and now it`s out of control. We have lockdowns all over the place.
They say once we get to 70-80% of everyone with a 2nd dose then we will be out of lockdown hopefully.

Just some advice to everyone, Try and have some dexamethasone tablets saved up or prednisone as a back up medication.
Dexamethasone is suppose to really help clear your lungs which is one of the main medications they are using in the hospitals.
Prednisone i think is just a weaker form of the same drug class. I have used prednisone before just when my lungs were blocked and it really works well.

Well the drugs your talking about are corticosteroids that relieve inflammation. Dex is pretty strong I have seen a quick turnaround with asthmatics with a 10 mg iv dose before. You need to know that if you have symptoms go to the Dr , Er or urgent care. Steroids work pretty good but you eventually need to taper the dose and allow your adrenals to start production of your natural corticosteroids. Or you can have a rebound crisis due to unable to breath because it was abruptly stopped.

I’m not convinced the boosters are necessary yet…nor does WHO. I think big Pharma has an excess supply and has found a good sales pitch. It would be much more humane to provide this vaccine to third-world countries with very low vaccination rates.

Coronavirus - Kenya: Over 880,000 Moderna COVID-19 vaccine doses arrive in Kenya, donated by the US
MONDAY 23 AUGUST 2021

UNICEF Kenya

This morning at 6:15am, 880,460 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, in Nairobi. The vaccines – which form the first of two shipments totalling 1.76 million doses – were donated by the United States Government via the COVAX facility and transported by UNICEF. This is the first time that Moderna vaccines have been received in Kenya and widens the portfolio of COVID-19 vaccines available for the national vaccination rollout.

The flight was met at the airport by senior Kenya Government officials led by Ministry of Health Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Dr Mercy Mwangangi and Principal Secretary (PS) Susan Mochache, US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires ad interim, Eric Kneedler, UNICEF Representative to Kenya Maniza Zaman and World Health Organization (WHO) Officer in Charge, Health System Cluster Lead Dr Mona Almudhwahi.

“We are very grateful to the US Government for this generous donation of Moderna vaccines,” Ministry of Health PS Susan Mochache said. “This will greatly support the ongoing rollout of Kenya’s COVID-19 vaccination campaign and help us reach the target announced by His Excellency President Kenyatta to vaccinate 10 million Kenyans by the end of December 2021. Vaccination is now open to all Kenyans over the age of 18. I would like to emphasise that all WHO and Government of Kenya approved vaccines, including the AstraZeneca and Moderna vaccines, are safe and effective. Members of the public will receive available vaccines at the health centre they visit, upon registration in the Chanjo System, Portal.health.go.ke.”

“This donation builds on the United States partnership with the Government of Kenya in response to COVID-19,” said US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires ad interim, Eric Kneedler. “These life-saving vaccines will fill an important need at a critical time in Kenya’s fight against this pandemic.”

The roll out of the national COVID-19 vaccination campaign is being led by the Ministry of Health (MoH), with support from WHO, UNICEF, Gavi and other partners. As well as procuring and transporting COVID-19 vaccines, UNICEF is supporting MoH in the distribution of the vaccines, procuring, deploying and managing the vaccines’ cold chain equipment. UNICEF and WHO are also supporting MoH with planning, technical support, capacity building, risk communication and community engagement.

“This generous donation of Moderna vaccines from the US Government is a welcome boost to Kenya’s ongoing COVID-19 vaccination campaign,” UNICEF Representative to Kenya Maniza Zaman said. “All vaccines available through COVAX are safe and effective and I would urge all Kenyans to get vaccinated as soon as advised to do so by the Ministry of Health. Once again, UNICEF is delighted to offer our full support in getting these vital COVID-19 vaccines to Kenya. We urge the international community to continue supporting Kenya to further increase the availability of vaccines. Globally, no one is safe until everyone is safe.”

The World Health Organisation has so far approved six COVID-19 vaccines for emergency use, including Astra Zeneca and Moderna. The organisation has emphasised the safety of approved vaccines and urged Kenyans to maintain public health measures while the national vaccination campaign is rolled out.

“Getting vaccinated is a choice and responsibility and I can assure Kenyans that all vaccines approved by WHO are safe and effective,” WHO’s Dr Mona Almudhwahi said. “The best vaccine is the first one that is offered to you - we urge all eligible Kenyans to get vaccinated. It is also essential that we continue with public health measures such as mask wearing, regular hand washing, social distancing and avoiding congested spaces and gathering.”

The vaccines arrived through the global COVAX initiative, which is co-led by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, WHO and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), working in partnership with UNICEF as well as the World Bank, civil society organisations, manufacturers, and others. COVAX is part of the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator, a ground-breaking global collaboration to accelerate development, production, and equitable access to COVID-19 tests, treatments, and vaccines.

“We know that the COVID-19 pandemic will not end in one country until it has ended in all countries,” said Rachel Belt, Senior Country Manager for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, speaking from Geneva. “COVAX has built a diverse portfolio of vaccines suitable for a range of settings and populations and is on track to meet its goal of delivering at least 2 billion doses of vaccine to participating countries around the world in 2021, including in Kenya.”

US to expand COVID-19 vaccine production to donate more doses to world
Katie Adams - Friday, August 20th, 2021 Print  | Email

The U.S. is scaling up its COVID-19 vaccine manufacturing so it can donate more doses to other countries, Anthony Fauci, MD, the White House chief medical adviser, told CNBC Aug. 19.

Dr. Fauci said the effort will allow the U.S. to "donate hundreds and hundreds of millions of doses to the low- and middle-income countries."

His words come two weeks after the World Health Organization called for an international moratorium on COVID-19 boosters. The WHO argues wealthy nations should wait to roll out booster plans for their residents, as millions of people in other parts of the world remain unvaccinated.

Dr. Fauci said the U.S. has donated more than 120 million doses to 80 countries and $4 billion in resources to Covax, the WHO-backed global vaccine access initiative.

"We are doing both," Dr. Fauci said. "We're very sensitive to the needs of the developing world who need vaccine doses, but we believe we can do both."

The US is donating PLENTY of resources to countries that need it. IMO more focus needs to be on getting unvaccinated people vaccinated and saving their lives.  Thankfully, we are looking at Isreal and how they have kept their COVID numbers relatively low.  They suggest boosters every 4-5 months after the initial 8 months after vaccination.  This is just for now while better vaccines that are effective against emerging varients are developed.

I work in healthcare, and was vaccinated in Jan-Feb of this year. At this point my Pfizer vaccines are only 74% effective. I will again be one of the first in line to get the booster.  Sorry to be contriversal, but I have done everything right from the beginning--stay at home other than work, mask all the time, etc. It pisses me off that again I am at a higher risk of getting COVID because of whatever reasons/excuses people have for not being vaccinated.

Health officials have released a new study confirming that nearly half of all those who contract COVID-19 infections remain asymptomatic, confirming a long-held belief.

New research found that more than 40 percent of those who tested positive for the virus have not shown symptoms, according to a new study published this week in JAMA Network Open.

In the study, researchers examined nearly 100 studies between January 2020 and February 2021 of nearly 30 million people in Asia, Europe, North America, South America, and Africa.

Of those millions, approximately 60 percent of confirmed COVID-19 cases among people under 20 were asymptomatic; nearly 50 people in people 20 to 39; about 32 percent in people 40 to 59, and nearly 33 percent in those over 60.

According to researchers, the highest percentage of asymptomatic cases were found among nursing home residents or staff, travel professionals, and pregnant women, though they noted that those populations were the most likely to be tested or re-tested, leading to the skewed data.

Those populations included in the study:

Pregnant woman: 54.1 percent of COVID-19 infections were asymptomatic;
Travelers on airplanes or cruises: 52.9 percent of COVID-19 infections were asymptomatic;
Pregnant women: 54.1 percent of COVID-19 infections were asymptomatic;
Nursing home residents and staff: 39.7 percent of COVID-19 infections were asymptomatic;
Healthcare workers and hospital patients: 30 percent of COVID-19 infections were asymptomatic.

“The high percentage of asymptomatic infections highlights the potential transmission risk of asymptomatic infections in communities," the researchers wrote. "Screening for asymptomatic infection is required, especially for countries and regions that have successfully controlled SARS-CoV-2."

The complete results of the study on JAMA Network can be found here.
