Amazed by what Neurologist advised me....
#1
Recently I went to legitimate medical on-lline service site where you can speak with various doctors and "ask" questions for small fee (which grows larger with each additional question asked, but I only asked one question so reasonable $35) via email or phone for answers.  I checked and it has a good rating by people who used it.

After entering all necessary info - background, allergies, medical history of any medical problems, my injury/treatment, and current symptoms from each stage up to end stage ones that I experience now - I summarized natural methods I'm using now (heat/cold, aspirin, meditation, music, prayer, desensitization, etc).
Specific, detailed summary of past 13 yrs since injury and complication/progression of RSD/CRPS up to current situation. What other specialists told me ("No Hope, You'll get worse and there's No Cure or even way to slow progression/spreading...) How I weaned myself off most meds due to negative side effects and ineffective also.

I don't want a spinal cord stimulator (made pain worse)
nor large amts of meds  which didn't help much after while AND already have caused me permanent damage (Neurontin - gabapentin - given too long and/or large doses  Was wonderful for pain at first, Better than narcotics for nerve pain - but it has done permanent "stroke-like" damage to my brain regarding speech & memory  BEWARE!)

Anyway, a "Board Certified Neurologist" with name and picture etc. was assigned to answer my question:
"Doctors say no cure, no way to control or slow down progression/spreading of disease -  I don't want SCS or lot of meds with bad side effects...   What else can I do to deal with the horrible symptoms I'm having in addition to things I'm using now?"

This board-certified neurologist replied - medical marijuana and listed 5 symptoms I have that mmj would help or "lessen"
(w/o dangerous side effects of meds docs push on us!)

I replied "unfortunately I live in a state where mmj isn't legal yet"

Neurologist replied -  "then use it illegally or move to a state where it's legal"

I already knew mmj helps those symptoms, I've tried it.  Never expected a Board Certified Neurologist to tell me to take "illegal drugs"
Isn't that kinda wild?   I saved link, took screen shot of our conversation.

Our govt needs to put healthcare back in trained doctors' hands, stop interfering with treatments, and Especially - make access to mmj available to All citizens when taking away other pain medications.  Give a break here.  MJ is NOT a CI - it has medical uses!

Marijuana was still listed as a medicine in the 1940's US Pharmacopoeia as medical intervention for multiple problems, such as migraines,

If you know its history, bureaucrat named Anslinger in D.C. was losing his job when Alcohol prohibition ended, and mj was sort of a  "trade-off" against making alcohol legal again.  His friends helped him keep a job (and oppress certain race in US that mostly used mj at that time - as so many of our drug laws have just happened to do - open door to attack specific group of people)

Anway, I Just found the Doctor's advice surprising, that he would openly tell me to use it anyway illegally (or move) and thought I'd share it with members here.   I'm guessing he comes from a state where mmj is legal so this isn't a rare suggestion he makes for how to deal with certain medical issues where he lives.
It was nice to have a doctor confirm what I  experienced in past and agree mmj would be helpful to me;
A Doctor who wasn't slave or afraid of feds and gave honest helpful suggestion as a trained professional that this is what he'd prescribe to me if I was his patient, what someone should prescribe for me.

My state makes lot of $ on illegal mj from growers to elected officials and police.  Very corrupt state.  It will probably be last state to pass any laws legalizing mmj even just for medical use.  Not like the politicians really care about ordinary people anyway, except on voting day.

I am not surprised by his answer. I believe he is a very honest man and an excellent neurologist. There are some doctors who have the courage, to tell the truth to their patients. You can stil travel to a nearby state and enjoy therapeutic cannabis benefits. I suffer from MS and live in a country that most can consume illegal cannabis, there is a production of over 3000 tons a year here but if you are unlucky enough to attract attention you may get several years behind bars for using over some grams of it. Despite that thousand of patients with cancer or MS prefer to use it and face LE than throw away the chance to feel better. I am one of those who seeks the highest quality so if anyone here knows a top quality vendor who ships his product to Europe I would be glad to receive by pm only further details. I feel tension lately due to spasticity and I would like to try something that will help me most in my movement.

I'm not really surprised by that doc's answer. They know legalization is comin' .
I think this is scarin' the poop outta Big Pharma tho. Unless they can find a way to monopolize it (which they can't) it will probably take awhile to be legalized everywhere. BP is gonna fight it to the end. Can you imagine how MJ is gonna hurt BP's bottom line? It helps with so many health issues that prescription meds just can't touch. I heard yesterday that my state has voted to legalize medical MJ. It's comin', just have to hope that lawmakers with any sense will stop wastin' time and allow relief to people it can really help. Unfortunately, BP has VERY deep pockets and many greedy politicians to bribe.

I've heard it said that God put everything on this earth for us to heal ourselves. It's man that is tryin' to deny us of things that work and it's 99% because of $. But then, isn't everything? It's disgustin' how a piece of paper is more important than our health and wellbeing.

I hope you are able to find a way to get what works for you.

Wow, Dancing Wolf, that is surprising.  I think it shows that the tide is continuing to turn for mmj.

I am sorry it is illegal in your state.  Maybe you could risk growing a small plant somewhere in your house?  Takes about 6 months I think.

Drives me nuts that we are still wasting $ on busting mj users.  Scary stuff though and one must be careful.

Your post was the first time I had heard this --

"...Neurontin - gabapentin - given too long and/or large doses  Was wonderful for pain at first, Better than narcotics for nerve pain - but it has done permanent "stroke-like" damage to my brain regarding speech & memory  BEWARE! .."

Orange Rabbit is on this med now.  Maybe she'll be by this thread.

Hang in there DW.

I get the gabapentin prescribed by my doc,it doesn't help as much as it used to,no way am i going to up my dose even if doc suggests that,I had no idea it could have stroke like side effects, been on it for a good few years now,my short term memoery is bad but i'm not sure if it was bad before going on the gabapentin, those damn ADs dont help my health much either, going to ask my doc to take me off them.

So let me give my experience so far.....

Took myself off the gabapentine, and lyrica after almost 3'weeks ago. I started on 1---50mg twice a day then DR wanted me to get to 3 times a day. Told her it was hard to get to 3 a day because it made me feel like a zombie/couldn't think/just felt, like crap. Plus my left foot and ankle increased in swelling. Pain was still there although not as in tense. I go back to the DR, tell her all of the above, show her my foot plus the pictures of my swollen foot (this is the foot I had a total knee on 20 months ago) and what does she do, tells me to,take 75mg twice a day. The next day I take the 75mg of,lyrica same sensations plus I start to have heart palpitations. Call the DR. Office and told still take the 75mg at night. Really?... forgot,to mention she said well I can give you a diuretic for the swollen leg. Excuse me, it was swollen before I went to see her and she assured me it would go away.

So I took myself off lyrica for neuropathy right after that call, although I don't recommend that only because a day after I did it I read a person can have seizures if that drug isn't titrated off.

So next phase....

I live in a state where both medical marijuana and recreational marijuana is legal. There are differences if you have a medical card on what you can get and there are specialists that will advise one on what to take and use. So my next step was get a consult from a medical marijuana specialists ....what do I have to lose. It has taken a bit to figure out what really works for me such as what strains should I vap, should I use edibles, what, kind of topicalS can I use, plus there are now medical marijuana patches for pain. There is a big difference between CBD and CBDA and THC and THCA and how it can help. And then if you mix the 2, how much of each do you take. Medical marijuana is a real science I am finding.

At first CBD tinitures didn't work. Then it was suggested I try a mixture of CBD and THCA tinicture. Then I tried a small mg of an edible. What I am finding is you have to slowly and moderately take CBD and or THCA so it eventually works with your natural CBD/THC/in your body. What works for me is THCA which is THC but without the high. I also use a topical salve I rub on my leg and it works miricals. Takes my pain away. It didn't at first, and I had to find the right mixture of CBD/THC/THCA. Now it does. It doesn't help my with the swelling, which is another story.

I found a orthopedic Chiropracter who I didn't even know existed. Is a homeopathic physician and works with muscles, etc and I am hoping will help with the swelling. She that DR in 3 weeks.

So that's my story so far. For me not knowing much about marijuana, even though I live in a place others would think we all do, I really needed to find a person who was well versed in how it could help medicinally. I would definitely recommend a specialists to anyone if they could find and use one. That is how I found out about the marijuana pain patches that I put on my leg, they last 96 hours and look like any other pain patch.

Hope this helps. Feel free to PM me with questions

I am not surprised in the least bit. After my "neurological event" as the doctors call it. It was either nervous breakdown or mild stroke. That was the first thing out of the doctors mouth is that Marijuana would be the best treatment for the PTSD, Panic Attacks and all the other goodies that go along with PTSD. Marijuana has a lot more medicinal properties than the government is ever willing to admit. They would loose too much money in the pharmaceutical business.

Trying to win the lottery now so I can move to Colorado

I wish you well, I hope that all states legalize Mary jane, I don't use but have heard of so many kids getting on much harder drugs because it is not available . I don't think it is gateway drug,. Locally several young people in this area overdose on hard drugs every year.Good news is it's available mail order in country , no customs, and post office has orders not to notify local law. If they somehow find it, they destroy it. The states that have it have brownies, and different varieties for different illnesses. Might be worth considering. You don't have to move, I'll be glad when u can get it on amazon

I appreciate all the interesting comments.

Pray mmj soon will be legally available to patients who need it.
