Indonesia: Death row Frenchman has exhausted legal options

JAKARTA, Indonesia – Indonesia's Foreign Ministry says a French citizen sentenced to death for drug offenses has exhausted all options in his legal fight to avoid execution.

Ministry spokesman Aarmanatha Nasir said
Thursday that Indonesia will proceed with
its legal process "in accordance with the
sentence that has been imposed against
the convict."

French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius has
said his government is "totally mobilized" in
support of Serge Atlaoui, whose final appeal
was denied by an Indonesian court last week.

Nasir said Indonesia recognizes that
governments have an obligation to protect
their citizens when they get in trouble
abroad but they must do so in compliance
with local laws.

Indonesia has executed 14 people, mostly
foreigners, for drug trafficking this year.


*Come on ... Put to death for drug offenses? What's next ... In my opinion ... Unless you're forcing someone against their will, it nobody's business but theirs .... As long as they don't infringe on my freedom, people should be left to their own devices ... My freedom should extend to where yours begins and as long as I keep in my free space .... I should be able to do as I see fit ...

I know for sure Indonesia will not be part of my retirement plans definately.
I read an article a while ago about how the cops were going around rounding up young folk who were dressed like punk rockers,they were taken into camps,hair shaven off,clothes taken off them and destroyed and then given some kind of re-education,sounds like Pol Pot all over again.
These were just kids into dressing differently than other people and with ideas or ideals different to the norm in that country,the government in that country has a long history of human rights abuse yet are sold arms and weaponry from countries like the UK and US.
Nice business for a few,don't know how those people sleep at night,probably with the best brandy and cuban cigars.
