Westchester Doctor Admits To Selling Thousands Of Oxycodone Pills For Cash
A 71-year-old Westchester County doctor has admitted to prescribing addictive oxycodone pills without any real medical purpose in exchange for cash, federal officials said.

Larchmont resident Mordechai Bar, who practiced in New Rochelle, pleaded guilty to federal drug distribution charges on Monday, Oct. 21, the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York announced.

According to federal officials, between January 2023 and June 2024, Bar prescribed oxycodone, a Schedule II narcotic, without a legitimate medical purpose and "outside of the usual course of professional practice."
He would often prescribe the drug in combination with amphetamines or alprazolam, other controlled substances that are abused and illegally resold, officials added.
Bar would sell these prescriptions for cash and would do so without performing physical examinations or medical tests on the patients to which he gave them.
According to federal officials, oxycodone prescriptions often get high prices in the black market because of the high demand from drug abusers.
On Monday, Bar pleaded guilty to one count of distributing oxycodone and other controlled substances, which has a maximum prison sentence of 20 years. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025.
US Attorney Damian Williams condemned Bar's actions, calling him a "drug dealer."
"He pumped highly addictive substances into the streets for profit, with no regard for the impact on the community," Williams added.
