Flu shot

Just wondering how many of you get the flu shot. I haven’t a choice since I’m in the medical field. Except if I want to wear a mask for 4 months which I don’t. I’ve read it can cause Alzheimer’s but don’t know how true that is. I received the one with no preservatives and they give it to babies. Thanks

well I use to get it every year.

Free with work.

But I stopped seberal years ago.

It is a personal choice I guess but they miss the one so bad the last several years and who knows what thewy are realluy putting i  the vaccine that it sometiomes seems like a cash cow to me and thats all.

so I stopped getting it and take my natural chances with resistance.

My day was excellent no work. I wouldn’t get it if I didn’t have to wear a mask during my 12 hr shift. Totally believe it’s a cash cow as well. I don’t have to pay for it my work wants me to have it. Maybe it’s good for real older people don’t know but they sure push it.

I get it every year because the flu sucks. Even if it only helps a little bit (no idea, really -- seems like effectiveness changes from year to year) then it is still worth it for me, personally.

Mr. Xray, my hospitals and facilities all required it--no options.  I would have probably gotten it every year anyway. When I was younger if I didn't get the flu shot, I got bronchitis every year.  I have no idea if it is effective in preventing the flu, but I get it.

I think most medical places want you to have it cause they are crawling with sick people ugh. I got my last night and my arm is still sore. Nurse wasnt good at giving shots.

I never got it... until I got preg 14 years ago. My pediatrician begged me, so I did. My whole family has ever since and we all do right around the same time my oldest has his annual check up in early October which is perfect timing. The one year my husband did not, as he was out of town, he got deathly sick with the flu. I know there are two schools of thought and I respect that.

I get it every year also. It makes me nauseous. My mom asks me every year if I've gotten it yet I hadn't had the flu in 25 years, and got home last Christmas day, and was sick! Blah! My sister too. My parents felt horrible, because they gave it to us! We have laughed with them several times about it!and they get theirs every year!

I get mine most years I have a physically demanding job with no back up if I’m out. So I can’t afford to get sick. Maybe just cheap insurance, but, knock on wood, I haven’t had the flu in years.

I've gotten a flu shot every year for decades. I have gotten colds and once strep throat, but not the flu. Sure, sometimes it doesn't work, but for me the flu could be life threatening. I actually got the senior shot this year, though I'm a few years short of age 62. It's maybe twice the dose of a normal shot. Due to medical issues, it was covered by my insurance plan. I also got the pneumonia part one shot and go back for part two in the middle of Dec. Will need to check with my Dr. about the new shingles vaccine that is a non live virus. I was forbidden to take the previous version.

So many young parents today don't understand the devastation that Polio caused. My parents were more than happy to take advantage of these life saving vaccinations, because they had seen first hand people dying.

Flu vaccine theory simplified:

Every year, epidemiologists attempt to guess which flu strains will predominate in the coming season based upon a number of inputs and assumptions.

They then culture the strain candidates en masse, kill them, then combine the dead organisms with albumin for injection into a largely unknowing population.

Belief is that the dead organisms will trigger and immune response in the injectee that will prevent or ameliorate symptoms associated with influenza infection.

Some years this strategy yields moderate success; other years not so much.

A common sense best practice to avoid infection is to scrupulously keep one's hands clean and consciously avoid touching your eye's with them.

Hope that everyone remains flu free this season... it's really awful when you get it.
