MoneyGram/Western Union and tor

I will say I don't use WU in person because of their nosy and intrusive questions....it's none of their business

I totally agree. It erks me how okay people have become freely offering any and all personal info to any and all who ask.

Though to be honest, the walk up WU computer terminal asked more questions than I was comfortable with, but actually, I was surprised they didn't ask more.

Not only is it none of their business, some of the questions seem totally irrelevant.

In this scenario, it's probably unnecessary, but it's a good habit to get into anyway. Blaming things on a third party who's not there is a good way to diffuse a tense situation, creating comraderie, and helpful when negotiating.

"Let me check with my wife."
or
"That? Oh, it's in a private trust, I'll have to check with the board."
or
"It's not my decision to make, and the owner can be a real tool."
etc, etc...

You get the idea.

Lol adding a third party in an illegal transaction makes it a conspiracy.
If WU or MG asks you do know the person.
Your cousin so and so is in Moldova visiting family and needs money for food or something. Never say you don't know who you're sending a bunch of money to because they'll think you're being scammed and won't process the transaction.
Its none of their business.

Always walk up. Go to a poor neighborhood you won't be looked at twice. Immigrants send money home very day. Takes 5 minutes.

This is good advice. It seems locations in poor neighborhoods do a lot more business too. Immigrants send money home, families send money to loved ones in jail. The last store I used had two well worn terminals, one of which had just broken down while I was there, apparently from over use.

But I definately like the idea of sending from the conveininece of my arm chair. Which reminds me of my initial question and original purpose for this thread. For those of you who prefer the online method, would it help or even mater if you used Tor or VPNs?

It won't hurt but I wouldn't want my information on the site with my real name on it be knowingly sent from a TOR exit node as its on file. I don't want to be known as a TOR user as its notoriously associated with bad things.
VPN would be a good if you just really don't want them knowing your location.

That is absolutely true.  But you are not necessarily on camera everywhere committing acts of questionable legality.  At least, I'm not.  Nor am I on camera in my own home if I were to choose to send money from there.

If they really want to track your IP I'm sure it could be done. I don't know I guess it's a personal choice I felt like they asked for more info online.

There is just no way to not leave a trail, unless you are willing to buy bitcoins, then "launder" them, which is a real pia. Plus, vendor will still have a record of your ship address. I say, don't worry about it, and deal with things as they come up. That is why sites like this give helpful information.

When you get meds online its a little late to be worried about 'eyes' when we go to make a payment.  I'll take WU anyday of the week though.

What is your reason for preferring them over MG?

WU is more prevalent in my area, I have an online account with them, Wires don't show bank and/or credit card info...

MG never allows me to order online (It denies me based off information I provide).  I always have to go in person if I use MG.  There are only a couple near me so it's more of a hassle as well when I try to use MG.
