Awesome attitude.  I pray someone has advice for u.  I go cold turkey off valium.  And, have had seizures.  So, am a big believer in hope.  Let us see.  I hope someone has an answer for u cuz frankly, so many doctors now suck.  No humanity at all.

Oh, man, Charon, seizures! I feel for you. Do you mind my asking what was your dose and how long were you on it when that happened?

i am supposed to take three ten mg a day. since age 15 when i began having tremors and what turned out to be lupus.

But, for schooling, as i put in 25 yrs, i went off. To study for the Bar, I went off. All the time. I don't advise it for anyone but God seems to let me live. Not sure when i had my first seizures. I thought i would overcome. Apparently not.

But i was off for three to six months last yr. Problems with a vendor. I take Inderal a blood pressure heart med in lieu of valium. And, i stay calm. But seizures are now known as part of sudden valium withdrawal. We did not know back then.

But was probably on it for ten yrs before i stopped as i feel it impedes and impairs short term and long term memory. And, I had to take the Bar Exam. You gotta be clean for that, i tell u what.

First post for me...and my story is hardly unique...I came here due to a very stressful week...
About me, I'm getting my masters in a month, and my doctor suddenly decides to cut me off from Alpr@z. 1mg daily, which I've been on for 10 years (2 years with current doc.)
Saw a 2nd doc who was equally lacking in compassion...told me withdrawals "won't be that bad" 
I'm coping, shaving my last two tablets down to slivers. Not too desperate yet. (I've been on anxiety meds for 20+ years, and have gone off several times, but never due to being cut off cold-turkey, I've always had a month or more to wean myself off.)
Anyway, I'm happy to meet you all!

Hello from the Great White North.  Years ago I got very dependent on Ativan and the withdrawl was agonizing.  Took a long time before I could sleep.  It was a very large dose.  I am pretty sure I know what country your from.  There is great support here.  Good luck, espically with your masters.

Thanks so much for the well wishes...this forum has allowed me to move on from the shock of realizing doctors protect themselves first and you second, if you're lucky. So far I've been trying gaba, niacin and vitamin C and the combo seems to ease the gnawing in the gut. My attitude still can go from pretty much OK to tragic/nightmarish within a few minutes.

Wow, very cool Charon. You are to be congratulated on taking the bar! I too have noticed the xanax screws with my short term memory. Probably long-term as well. Like I'll have no recollection of having seen a movie, but then within the first minute I realize I've seen it before.

Welcome dynalift!  Good to have you here.  One thing...I'm sure you know that if you have been on those meds for so long, it is considered a medical emergency to stop taking them abruptly.  Be very careful through the process...seizures are common.  Throughout my life I have been prescribed meds for anxiety but I have been careful to take a holiday after 6 weeks or so.  I wish you all the best.

Hello Dynalift, Well you sure found the right forum. I agree with Charon on you finding a new doctor. Cold turkey's are horrible. I tried to do it months after my accident. When I went to the doctor, he was very upset that I was putting my body through that. He gave me a mild narcotic and  slowly tapered me off them. Hopefully, you will find all you need here. We are like family here. Ask all the questions you need to ask, someone will have the answer to them. Welcome to the family Dynalift!!
