It sounds like a good idea in theory; what you really need is to find someone trustworthy who will dole out your meds according to a plan, and not deviate from that plan until you are completely weaned off. I have been on Methadone and will never go back to a meth clinic, or take that drug again even if I could obtain it by other means. I started to get a lot of health problems after I was on that drug for awhile; it's a wonder I didn't have a heart attack or stroke, because it masks so much of those little symptoms that would otherwise motivate a change in lifestyle, diet, exercise, or even a check up at a regular doctor. At least in the US, methadone clinics are outrageously expensive and you give up so much freedom to be on it. You get no discount even when you get to the point of only coming in twice a month. Big profit in those type of clients! Even then, forget overseas travel and even a vacation is a horror. Carrying those damn bottles of pink liquid everywhere, worrying about people seeing them or whether they will explode in you luggage and leave you kicking cold turkey with no where to turn. No wonder they call it "liquid handcuffs". Staff are sometimes decent, and even helpful, especially after you've been there awhile and they feel you are trustworthy. But most clinics don't seem to have the resources (or care to spend the money) to provide genuine counseling in dealing w the root causes of addicition and/or chronic pain (the two are so often intertwined). Still and all, meth clinics are a necessary evil, and our society is safer and so much suffering is alleviated by their existence.
With benzos I've personally been lucky in that they are not recreational for me. I just need enough to keep the panic away. I like to function, to be able to do the real important things in life, like work, make art, build things, have friendships, make sure my dog gets out and has enough exercise to keep him happy. (I envy him...what it would be like to live every moment with no knowledge of pills, clocks, or altering your consciousness.)
If the sociopathic congress/president get their way with their so-called health care plan, I want to see all drugs go off Rx completely. We each would need to become our own diagnosticians and save any visits to doctors for real emergencies like car accidents. I mean, what the hell else can be done?...with no insurance even an office visit is going to put most of the population in the hole. Beyond that and you're on the street. And let all their lip service about freedom and personal responsibility be put to genuine use.
Sorry for the long winded reply...advice only goes so far and I've never achieved anything that didn't wholly come from within. Doctor Gabor Mate' has been a great help to me...basically he says that your problem is not the drugs, it's the cage you're living in (find out how change/to get out of that cage, and a solution to drug overuse will fall into place). It's a slow process and I think we are so often thwarted by the American fantasy of arriving at a "perfect" state. But that ignores that the process is by definition something ongoing from birth to death.
