Hello everyone,
So, that's me completed 8 days of 5-HTP.
I'm writing off placebo completely, 5-HTP has definitely had a moderately positive effect on me.
What it has done:
I feel more positive.
In situations I'd usually feel a bit down (for example, when hungover, when receiving bad news, when having a 'tiff' with my partner, etc etc etc) I definitely feel less down / more positive.
It's like more of a positive, rational thought process instead of a negative, erratic thought process.
Like I have stated above, I have never been depressed but I welcome this new positivity and rationality with open arms!
I guess another example is my attitude on a Monday morning, it was noticeably lifted yesterday morning (I didn't dread work as much)
I'm sleeping deeper:
I have been sleeping VERY well on it, the dreams are vivid! but I wake up when the alarm goes off BURSTING for a pee, I usually pee at least once during the night, so waking up bursting is proof of undisturbed sleep.
I decided to cut out the multi vitamins, 5-HTP tends to come with B vitamins so I bought some some Iron & Vitamin C tabs instead.
Anyway, that's all for now. I would recommend trying it. It seems about 20% of people feel nothing, I feel something, albeit fairly mild, but I'm not searching for a buzz.
Ill report back once I've completed 12 or 13 days.
Oh, yeah, I read something about 5-HTP before I started taking it and I fully agree with it!
Imagine your mind was a table tennis board, without the net.
Imagine seretonin was table tennis balls.
Someone wrote that SSRI's act like a wall round the edges of the table tennis board, so the seretonin (balls) your brain naturally produces cannot escape very easily, they cannot roll of the edge.
5-HTP simply puts more balls on the table.
A table tennis board is not designed to cope with having a wall built round it's edges, but it certainly is designed to cope with table tennis balls.
