Can't get my physician to respond
#1
I've mentioned here before that I had had an Ambien prescription in the past, and it worked great. But, in my area, it seems that only psychiatrists prescribe Ambien, and I have had terrible difficultly getting to see a psychiatrist.

I was finally able to see a psychiatrist about a week ago, and he said he would prescribe Ambien for my, except that it is not safe for some people with severe liver problems. He will prescribe it if my liver specialist says it is OK for me.

I wrote to my liver specialist last weekend asking if Ambien is safe for me. I am on pins-and-needles waiting for his response. The University policy is that he is supposed to respond within three business days. I have spent the past few days checking and checking to see if I have gotten a respond yet. Now, the three days have passed, without a word from the liver specialist.

I am scheduled to see the psychiatrist on Saturday, but he told me I should cancel if I have not heard yet from the liver specialist. What should I do? Maybe the liver specialist accidentally overlooked the message and I should phone him or write to him again? Or, maybe he is not sure if Ambien is safe, and if I pressure him, he will just say no? How long should I wait before contacting him again?

Call the liver specialist! Tell him the importance of this med. Drs. get busy or don't want to deal with/catch-up on older messages. I have learned to bug them until they answer!!! LOL The answer might be NO, but at least you got your answer!!!

Good Luck!!

Thanks, Slick! I was able to get in touch with his nurse, and she says he OK'ed the Ambien! I don't know if he faxed the letter to my psychiatrist, but if I keep calling the liver specialist's office, I'm sure it will get sent to my psychiatrist fairly soon.
