Pausing to remember D-Day
World leaders, including President Trump, are in France today for ceremonies commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Allied landing on the beaches of Normandy, the start of the 1944 campaign to wrest Europe from Nazi control

06 June 1944, D-Day
Today is the 75th Anniversary of D-Day, the largest military operation in human history.
The Allies(that's the USA, Canada, France, the UK and the other good guys) invaded German-occupied France and started what became the end of WW2 in Europe.
As I recall from numerous documentaries, the Germans screwed because Hitler was asleep, and never let anyone wake him. He trusted no one, so his officers had no authority to move their resources where they were needed to repel the invasion until Hitler just happened to wake up later that day. By then it was too late for the Germans.
