This page features the world population data by country with live calculation based on the birth/death ratio. Whilst every effort is made to ensure the population information is correct and up to date, there may be changes which we are not aware of.

Today 384,701 people will be born and 156,936 people will die, resulting in a net gain of 227,765 humans (give or take a few thousand). This year 140 million babies will be born and 57 million people will die. Nearly half of these deaths will be attributed to heart disease or some form of cancer. If you think that sounds depressing consider that 13 million hectares of forest will be lost this year.

Population stats are the sums of all persons currently alive. The other (growth) stats show a live counter of the projected growth since the start of the year (or other selected time period).

While I may cause a great deal of controversy with my next set of words, it is simply what I believe. I do believe (in my healthy moments) that life is sacred and that we do have a purpose or mission. But the issue icewizard brought up is not nearly discussed enough and it does propose serious problems to the beautiful planet and all its inhabitants both great and small. Definitely something to consider. Thanks for sharing this icewizard.
