very interesting topic....I have never given it much thought....I fooled around a bit with a free vpn but didn't like how it slowed things down...perhaps its time for me to revisit things....naiveté is not an excuse if something happens.... thanks for the info

They do rip and runs for politics indeed. There is a huge washout rate in LE, as I hear about people I went to high school with lasting 1 year after mandatory 1 year at a county. Now we are witnessing the ones that did not wash out man handling kids in a classroom. Those ones that shoot and ask questions later, are now being fired without pay andy brought up on charges.

That leaves maybe 5% that will do rip and runs when it is slow, or depending on there position and rank, even then they have very little common sense or street smarts or higher education, but those few are given almost free reign. There was one out here that spanned multiple states title 3 (which means they had to prove to a judge that they exhausted all possible means) to find out about a group. Even then anyone can go on PACER and pull anyones discovery. They were following these people with a outfitted van, just to listen to phone and get email, and that was FLE.They owned many companies which they said were fronts.

That massive center in Utah along with EL paso EPIC, from what I have heard is used for gigantic people. There is a epidemic in Mexico/Juarez/Sinaloa turning into a war zone right now right now, which along with maybe a few others is the main focus.

safe-mail being down and deleting the 250K users is not good. It makes me wonder what they are going to do with the 250K users information, if they will be forwarding that to LE or if they are simply deleting them. Its harder and harder to find a good email service these days that protects users privacy and has a good track record/functionability. protonmail, runbox, tutanota etc I have all heard good things about. and then there is sigaint on the darkweb too

RE: Safe e-mail suggestions - barq2 - 11-18-2015

Let me play devil's advocate... Do people draw more attention to themselves by using certain strong security measures?

PGP has been around for (20?) years and I remember the argument that email was like an open postcard, but if everyone sent messages in envelopes (encrypted) it would be normal and not attract attention. The point was that otherwise anything encrypted would be suspect by default. However, certain phones and computers now have full disk encryption as a normal option, so there is some change.

BTW This isn't an argument for abandoning VPNs, TOR, or whatever people prefer to use. Security through obscurity is pretty weak. But just wondered if some heavy security measures put you in "bad company" (for lack of a better phrase - think the media's representation of the "dark net"). The counterargument is that is what "they" want us to believe (eg TOR is for dodgy porn, terrorists, etc) and so do it all openly.

I saw that as well Linville, I wonder how safe they are now after the huge crash and rumors popping up of FBI cooperation and FBI probing into their emails etc. they took a long time to get back up and running...

RE: Safe e-mail suggestions - MCS1964 - 12-16-2015

I'm starting to think about secure email. The old Gmail account is obviously wide open to all viewers. How difficult is it to change emails with current providers where I'm registered? If the email is encrypted how does the recipient see the mail if they don't have a key?

Thanks,

MCS

I would look at safemail just like hushmail...
Anymore.

Not really safe .

RE: Safe e-mail suggestions - Ismar - 12-27-2015

I have been using counter-mail ever since hushmail's incompetens appeared in to the light. And thats quite some years now. All of my friends has used it since then too and I never heard anyone that has regreted it. Only the other way around.

They run on PGP ecryption and also offer extensioned encryption keys on usb to your account for an extra fee. I pay 19usd every 3 months for it but you can also subscribe for longer periods and pay less per month.

If you pay with a pre-paid mastercard/visa from the store you will also stay completely anonymous.

You go with counter-mail and encryption on computers start-up and your safe if the computer falls in to the wrong hands. That's talking from experience.

Be safe and be regretless!
