The warning is related to 2002-2006 vehicles equipped with recalled, unrepaired Takata airbags. The warning covers: 2002-2006 Nissan Sentra 2002-2004 Nissan Pathfinder 2002-2003 Infiniti QX4 vehicles "If you have one of these vehicles, do not drive it until the repair is completed and the defective air bag is replaced," National Highway Transportation Safety Administration states. Honda and Toyota also recently issued "Do Not Drive" warnings. Toyota Issues "Do Not Drive Warning" Canva Toyota also recently announced a "Do Not Drive" advisory due to the same Takata airbag issue. Over 50,000 vehicles are impacted. Getty Images "Toyota is issuing an immediate DO NOT DRIVE advisory," Toyota states. "Certain airbags found in the subject vehicles are under an URGENT airbag safety recall. Due to the age of the vehicles, if the airbag deploys, a part inside is more likely to explode and shoot sharp metal fragments which could cause SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH to the driver or passengers. Owners SHOULD NOT DRIVE these vehicles until the FREE safety recall repair has been conducted." Canva Certain model year 2003-2004 Corolla, 2003-2004 Corolla Matrix, and model year 2004-2005 RAV4 vehicles are involved in this recall. The company is urging owners to contact their local dealer instead of driving their vehicles to be repaired. Canva "Toyota will repair or replace the airbag for FREE. Toyota is notifying known owners of these vehicles every month through a variety of communication channels. To see if your vehicle is involved in a safety recall visit Toyota.com/recall or nhtsa.gov/recalls and enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or license plate information," Toyota added. Replacement parts are available now for free for this recall. Check your vehicle for recalls here," the NHTSA states. "These vehicles are 20 to 22 years old now, and the risk to vehicle occupants is dire. Canva Alpha airbags have a 50 percent failure rate, officials say. Replacement parts are available now for free. Canva "If the inflators rupture, the metal fragments ejected toward the driver’s face could kill or leave them with devastating, life-altering injuries," the NHTSA adds in it's warning. Canva Honda believes the company has replaced most cars still on the road with the recalled airbags, but officials say it's " absolutely critical that these remaining vehicle owners act now to protect themselves and their loved ones." Canva “If you have a vehicle with a recalled Takata Alpha air bag, you must get it repaired now – for free. These inflators are two decades old now, and they pose a 50% chance of rupturing in even a minor crash. Don’t gamble with your life or the life of someone you love – schedule your free repair today before it’s too late,” NHTSA Acting Administrator Ann Carlson. said. Replacement parts are available now for free. Canva Officials say that unrepaired Takata airbags have an increased risk of exploding. At least 27 people in the U.S. were killed by a defective Takata airbag that exploded, according to the NHTSA. At least 500 people were injured by exploding Takata airbag inflators. "Even minor crashes can result in exploding Takata airbags that can kill or produce life-altering, gruesome injuries," the NHTSA said. "Older model year vehicles put their occupants at higher risk, as the age of the airbag is one of the contributing factors."
