Dixie Chicks Member Killed
in Head-On Car Crash in Texas

Laura Lynch, a founding member of the renowned music group The Dixie Chicks, tragically lost
her life in a head-on collision in El Paso, Texas, as confirmed by the police on Saturday.

At the age of 65, Lynch met her demise while traveling eastbound on U.S. 62 when another vehicle,
moving in the opposite direction, attempted an overtaking maneuver on a two-way undivided section
of the highway, leading to the fatal accident, as reported by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The incident occurred on Friday around 5:45 p.m. local time. The surviving members of the band,
now known as The Chicks following a name change in 2020, expressed deep sorrow over Lynch’s passing.

“We are shocked and saddened by her death,” the band said in a post on Instagram. “We hold a special
place in our hearts for the time we spent playing music, laughing and traveling together. Laura was a
bright light…her infectious energy and humor gave a spark to the early days of our band. Laura had a
gift for design, a love of all things Texas and was instrumental in the early success of the band. Her
undeniable talents helped propel us beyond busking on street corners to stages all across
Texas and the mid-West.”

Police confirmed Lynch’s death at the scene, noting that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time
of the crash. The other vehicle involved caught fire, and its driver was hospitalized with
non-life-threatening injuries.

Lynch played a pivotal role in the formation of The Dixie Chicks in 1989, alongside Robin Lynn Macy,
Martie Erwin and Emily Erwin. She served as the upright bass player and eventually took on the role
of a singer. Lynch’s tenure with the group saw the recording of three albums before she departed,
paving the way for Natalie Maines to join the band.
