(AP) — A three-day music festival will be held in August 2019 at the original Woodstock concert site to mark the 50th anniversary of the historic event. ![]() The Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, a concert venue built on the original Woodstock site, announced Thursday that it will host the golden anniversary event Aug. 16-18. The center says performers will include “prominent and emerging artists spanning multiple genres and decades.” The venue says talks by “leading futurists and retro-tech experts” will also be featured. Beth Woods says the names of performers and speakers will be announced soon. RE: Woodstock 2019 Scheduled 50 year since first - Roses - 12-30-2018 Yay, this is great news. This I must go to. It's not too far from where I live. I'm very interested to see who all will be performing. I have to tell my son in Colorado, I know he would go too. Thanks Linville

RE: Woodstock 2019 Scheduled 50 year since first - pokey - 01-10-2019 Again? Both the 94 and 99 Woodstocks were absolute messes, 1999 in particular. I've only ever been to one big outdoor music festival like that. Roasting in the sun, watching bands on a big TV with the crappiest live sound ever, waiting in line forever for overpriced refreshments and disgusting portatoilets. Never again, I said. I've been so much happier at smaller, more local outdoor festivals (with camping, even) than these things where they cram in as many people as possible to soak them for as much money as possible. The smaller local ones are just so incredibly relaxed in comparison. I don't want to be a spoilsport because I did have great friends along and did have fun, but once was enough for me. RE: Woodstock 2019 Scheduled 50 year since first - swissmiss - 01-10-2019 I wouldn't mind being on the fringe of the activities.....close enough to enjoy the atmosphere of a hippie reunion, yet far enough away from the negatives pokey mentioned. I have a 1969 vintage camper that I camp in, so that would eliminate some of the complications. That might be a thought for others who are thinking of attending. RE: Woodstock 2019 Scheduled 50 year since first - celts17 - 01-15-2019 is Watkins Glen really a smart place to have it? There was a concert that was canceled last year because the drinking water was not safe. Don’t want to be Debbie downer, but 1999 did not go so well. I am all for music festivals, but this seems to be tempting fate in terms of using something that came together magically, and was free, and also had Jimi Hendrix. Believe me it’s not fun after an hour being in mud. And maybe not even for an hour, just my opinion. But I have been to big festivals where I huge rain storm has made the whole site one big mud pit. And just not fun. But I’m sure they will do this right, so everyone have fun, I don’t want to be negative. Just trying to be realistic. |
