Totally agree Rafterman. I have a late model ZR1 corvette that has been modified to produce over 620hp at the wheels, around 740 at the crank, And of course it's a stick! Wouldn't have it any other way.
Also have a 4 door jeep wrangler and a mid 2000's SL class Benz.

I collect books! I like to keep every book I read for no reason really; I just can't bare the idea of getting rid of a good book even when I am done with it. I have shelves and shelves of them. I could make my own mini library
. Maybe this is a reason I could never buy a kindle... Having the physical book is way better to me.

I many books also. I tend to give them away or lend them out. If I like a book enough I will buy the hardback, keep it & reread or reference from time to time. I agree, reading on a tablet is just not the same. That being said digital textbooks are great.
School book prices have sky-rocked since the clinton administration. Plus, textbooks are massive & heavy. Sometimes they are so thick that its a challenge to get them in my backpack especially if I have a coat or something. When my sciatic nerve pain kicks in, its unbearable to carry heavy packs.
I have a great resource for FREE digital books PM me if you are interested. I can try to find the appropriate thread & post website & download instructions.

OK. I'll confess. Before my current Tarot Deck obsession, I too used to collect books.
I fully intended to read every one of them - but never quite seemed to find the time.
That didn't stop me from collecting more books, of course.
I had two large piles of books on my bedside table - the first pile being the "Must Read - Essential" pile.
The second pile was the "After the Must Read's, these are next".
Then I had a pile in the first drawer of the bedside table.
This was my "One day I'd like to read these, maybe during the holidays" pile.
In the bottom drawer of the bedside table was a very thick pile of scientific papers, reviews, meta-analyses and monographs.
This was my "I really should know all this stuff" pile.
Then I had the Epiphany. My SO's side of the bedroom was calm and serene, whilst mine was chaotic.
I collected all the books and papers and moved them onto bookshelves in the computer room.
99.5% of them have remained there unread; but now calm and piece pervade the entire bedroom.
Occasionally I will take a single book into the bedroom, but it gets escorted straight back to the computer room the next morning.
In my case at least, I fear my 'collecting' gene might be a close cousin to my 'addictive personality' gene.
A question for Woodhouse and maeve. Do you ever smell your books, per chance?
At the height of my collecting, I'd scour Abebooks until I could find a Hard Cover First Edition.
I know alot of people don't like the smell, but for me there is something deeply satisfying about the aroma of an old book.
A couple of my 1968 tarot decks have still somehow managed to maintained a bizarrely attractive inky smell.
Perhaps it's the L$D that they mixed into the pigments back in those heady days....

I also collected rocks. Some purchased & others I found. Unfortunately I lost them in a move. My GF & I wanted to get out of our apartment & were having a hard time finding a house. We put some stuff in her parents storage space... bad idea. After dealing with a semi long distance relationship one thing led to another... and that was that, as they say. I also lost my childhood bike separate in a separate but equally tragic manor. The loss of both will haunt me forever... I still have dreams about getting that bike back. Full disclosure I was know longer a child when my bike was given away by a friends parent.
Luckily my favorite rock was spared. I found a black magnetic rock in Colorado as a child and I still have that one.
I also have my Grandmas Vintage Samsonite Taperlite Train Case. I love it. Shes been gone many years now but it still smells like her perfumes and house. I also several giant old Taperlite luggage cases. Two of which are massive.

Did you ever happen to see that episode of Pawn Stars where Rick was offered that collection of sneakers for something like a million dollars? I have heard that Chumlee has over 500 pair. I have seen him but a pair here and there on the show, and I hardly ever even watch it. I would have never thought of that as a hobby but, then again, I collect HS and College yearbooks and a lot of people think that is way out there. Cheers. R

Thanks for the reply & comments. I have seen chum buy some sneakers... The police report of what the cops found when they raided his house was crazy. They list all of his substances... Funny thing is they legalized most of it later that year or the year after.
I had no idea about the sneaker heads until this girl commented on my shoes. I guess she noticed I had 2 different pairs of new nikes and started talking to me in class. She asked me if I was a sneaker head... I had no clue what she meant. She told me that she was a SH & that she had just gone to one of those trade shows. People buy, sell & trade New, vintage & limited editions. Pretty crazy. Most of mine are from a place called Shoe Show. Apparently its one of the largest shoe store in the country. I try not to spend more than $40 on each pair... but sometimes I will go up to 55 or 60 if they are really nice. I believe when Nike buys the shoes they grade them. The lower grades go to the discount stores. You can sometimes see a crooked stitches or maybe a bit of glue sticking out between the sole and leather.
Most people would not notice but I inspect the hell out of stuff like that.

Man, I love video games. Have every ROM from every system on my pc and use my Wii to run the emulators. Up until the current gen, I'd say between old games, PC, and modified xbox 360's, I have them all. Work and family has forced me to cut way back on my gaming time. Favorites?

I've got a few things building up.
Main one is 50p coins.Lots of different types over here so anything I get in my change with an interesting face goes in my piggy bank. I was mortified when my wife raided it to pay the fishman one week. To be fair she told him about it and he kept all his interesting one's for a few weeks for me to buy/exchange!
I got into watches for a short while, but this gets expensive very quickly if you want something 'decent'.
Now building up a wee fountain pen collection. Very excited about my Stormtrooper Cross Townsend which should arrive tomorrow.....

I just finished answering the sweet note you left for me weeks ago, and then to scroll through hobbies sounded innocent enough, but what an unexpected direction this took. It is bad enough to have to keep alert all of the time, but even if this was not an actual swatting, bringing the government Into your lives (and children) crossed a line.
I don't know what kind of coward would do something like that, but I'm sorry. No matter how strong you are, the mountains still become flat 1 drop of rain at a time. I'm sure you have taken measures and there's no need to discuss them. People of character and faith scare the crap out of those who have none, and they are afraid of your conviction. The same conviction that gives your words the power to change people's minds. Darkness always tries to block the light.
