If they really want it they'll get it, especially with flimsy locks. A couple of neighbors have drilled holes into their mailbox and put in two padlocks, plus their existing lock. Luckily these dirtbags are only looking for easy pickings and anything locked, they pass on by. They're kind of in a hurry, if you know what I mean. RE: Avoid: this email - nickolyko - 01-11-2017 This wave of mailbox raid happens mostly on holidays in many countries. Here in north EU it is something like a custom the days before new years eve. I protect my mailbox quite well and sometimes I have to defend it from nasty people who stop and try to steal my items. RE: Avoid: this email - Orange rabbit - 01-11-2017 mojim So sorry about the issue with your mailbox. Possible a paid storefront mailbox is a good idea for awhile, if that is possible for you. About a 2 years ago, we had a rash of mailbox thiefs. It is funny now (wasn't then) but instead of breaking into the mailbox, they sawed the mailboxes off and took them. They did this in the middle of the night. Each mailbox is metal and has a set of 9 mailboxes in them. A total of 3'sets were taken all over the neighborhood. Eventually they did track the thiefs and found the empty mailboxes in some cheap hotel. But my point is if they really want your mailbox contents they will take it even if it's the entire mailbox. RE: Avoid: this email - bothereddog - 02-17-2017 Once again evidence of Charons care and compassion for all concerned, and you'd be right about most locks are a joke just barely good enough to make the miscreants move on to the next poor soul, I recently helped an elderly neighbour recover his car keys from the boot/trunk of the car as he'd locked them in whilst removing his shopping and after a little research like 10mins I went out and bought a specialist tool available to anyone and having never seen such a thing before let alone used one, it opened the car literally as fast as a key with no damage at all I was blown away! But he was so grateful and a valuable lesson for me too on how useless most locks are. So do be careful people locks are at best just a visual deterrent. Love n respect. RE: Avoid: this email - Charon - 02-18-2017 geeze i once locked myself out of my car as i had my kid and quite a few of his cousins. being careful for so many made me nervous. so, i called the police. one must sign a waiver that they will not sue if the cops break ur door. well, whatever tool the cops used, it did break my lock. my handle. bah. but, one time, when i became an attack dog trainer before law school, i was leaving bronx and going to manhattan and we were bussed to brooklyn. i dated the former con whom drove the bus. thank god. because, the witchy women whom worked in the School of Animal Arts, knew i came there thrice a week in full legal attire. and i changed into a dog training outfit. so, to be witches, they locked me in the place and turned off the lights. the bus was outside. however there were five attack trained dogs loose in the building. i did my best to get the cops to get the owners unlisted number. and the cops tried to unlock the police bar on outside of building to get me out before i was killed. they could not. but thank god for the ex con i dated. he was able to break into the attack dog school and get me out. My hero. Those three witches for fired for deliberately putting me in the way of trained attack dogs. Some locks only a criminal can open easily. It is good to have a trustworthy former criminal as a friend sometimes. The cops were too innocent. Those three witch women should have been put in the stockade for deliberately doing that. argh.
